What is this place?

This is this internet home of Eric Elliott. Here you'll find my projects, blog, resume, and anything else I feel like sharing with the world.

My Projects

Some personal projects that I've been working on lately. is an app for tracking shared expenses and calculating who owes who.

I built it to help with managing expenses on yearly hiking trips I take with a group of friends, and now it's available to the world! So give it a try, it's free.

I also periodically write about its development in my blog.

Wordspy is a word guessing game inspired by the Codenames boardgame. It's played by at least 4 people, split into teams of two.

I built it to provide some socially distant entertainment while the corona virus is ruining our in-person fun. The current version requires teams to be able to talk to each other, so it's best over video chat.

I used the Elixir language and the Phoenix web framework, with styling powered by Tailwindcss. You can have a look at the code on GitHub.

Why Rocket Hat?

Because my name is too damn common, but also hard to spell correctly, so I found a nonsensical, yet fun, domain name. There are so many variations on the spelling of Elliott, there's even a poem about it (from the Elliot clan website):

The double L and single T
Descent from Minto and Wolflee,
The double T and single L
Mark the old race in Stobs that dwell.
The single L and single T
The Eliots of St Germains be,
But double T and double L,
Who they are nobody can tell.
